My head was reeling (in a positive way!) after attending this course. I didn't realise a compact camera was capable of so much. I really enjoyed the day and learned a lot.

Intensive 1-Day Beginner-Improver Photography Course

This course is aimed primarily at owners of compact cameras or anyone thinking of buying one. It is probably best described as a crash course in digital photography. While some SLR owners occasionally attend this course and find it useful, it should be noted that the course does not attempt to cover the P,A,S & M (creative settings) on SLR cameras.

Topics covered include
  - quality/compression settings
  - focus modes, depth-of-field and how to achieve good focus
  - intro to ISO, aperture and shutter speed relationships
  - exposure control including exp.comp usage
  - macro (close-up) photography settings
  - scene modes (sports, landscape & portrait)
  - intro to camera flash modes & when to use (fill, auto, red-eye, off)
  - introduction to photo-editing (by way of short demo only)

The course consists of a mix of theory and practical exercises and aims to familiarize users with the most popular/useful settings common to most cameras. As a general rule, camera phones or camcorders are not suitable for this course - you need a dedicated digital camera.

Course Fee
The course fee is €100 per person and the maximum number of participants on this course is eight. Mid-morning and mid-afternoon snacks and a light sandwich lunch are included in the course fee.
Course fees must be paid fully in advance and places cannot be reserved without payment. Fees are fully refundable for cancellations made more than 14 days before the course date but thereafter are non-refundable as it is not practical for us to back-fill places at such short notice.

Course Venue
The venue (in Ennis) will be finalized closer to the date depending on the number of bookings. However, this course is usually held in the Clare Education Centre (Kilrush Rd, Ennis) or one of the local hotels.

Course Duration
The course runs from 09:00 to 17:00 with a 45 min lunch break and two 15-min tea/coffee breaks. This makes for just short of 7 contact hours and the course is therefore quite intensive.
